The four verbs
Calyx's grammar of meaning is four operations — Measure, Count, Differentiate, Compose. They are the hub through which every mechanism subsystem hangs.
You want to (1) see an input through lenses, (2) find which inputs agree, (3) ask which lens adds new signal, and (4) find the few records that explain the rest. How many fundamental operations is that?
Four — and they map exactly onto Measure, Count, Differentiate, Compose. Every Calyx subsystem is one of these verbs made real — Measure becomes the registry of lenses, Count becomes Loom associations, Differentiate becomes Assay signal bits, Compose becomes the Lodestar grounding kernel. The verbs are the grammar; the subsystems are the sentences.

The grammar of meaning
Everything Calyx does reduces to four verbs:
- Measure — see an input through many lenses, forming a constellation.
- Count — find where constellations agree, building the agreement graph of which ideas relate.
- Differentiate — ask how much new signal each lens or record adds (signal bits).
- Compose — assemble the minimal set of records that explains a whole corpus (the grounding kernel).
The hub the whole system hangs from
These four are the hub. Each mechanism subsystem is one verb made operational — the registry of lenses realizes Measure, Loom realizes Count, Assay realizes Differentiate, Lodestar realizes Compose. Learning the four verbs is learning the spine: once you can name them, every later subsystem has an obvious place to hang. That is why the Concepts grid itself is organized by verb — the bridge teaches the grammar before the vocabulary.
